-
- NoteWare is a perfectly sized memory resident notepad.
- It occupies less than 16K, yet enables you to create, edit,
- and retrieve up to 99 screen-size notes. You have complete
- control over the format and content of these notes. You
- can also capture anything on your PC's screen (except
- graphics images) for later review and editing.
-
- NoteWare is user-oriented software. It automatically
- saves your notes on disk as soon as you exit the program; no
- "Save" command is required. It remembers exactly where you
- left off -- simply press the hotkey combination to resume
- your work. The hotkeys available are particularly convenient:
- Alt-spacebar, Ctrl-spacebar, and Shift-spacebar.
-
- NoteWare numbers your notes so you don't have to bother
- with filenames. You select a note by:
-
- - using the PageUp and PageDown keys, or
- - typing in the desired note number, or
- - entering a string of text to search for.
-
- Additional features include wordwrap, loading and saving
- files, shredding (eliminating) a note, and changing the brightness
- of what you type. You perform these actions by pressing a
- function key. The function key descriptions are displayed on
- the last line of NoteWare's screen.
-
-
- SUGGESTED USES
- ==============
-
- Here are some of the many ways NoteWare is currently used:
-
- Take phone messages; make to-do lists; schedule appointments;
- manage projects; capture information off bulletin boards,
- information services, and programs that normally don't send data
- to a file or printer; record any ideas that come to mind regardless
- of what you're working on; capture and edit text while using your
- word processor; replace your post-it notes; and save copies of
- important files, such as versions of AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS.
-
- AUTOMATIC INSTALLATION
- ======================
- Type A: <Enter> at the DOS prompt. Then type INSTALL<Enter>
- and answer the two questions asked by the Installation Program.
-
- MANUAL INSTALLATION
- ===================
- If you prefer to install NoteWare yourself, copy all its files
- to a directory listed in the DOS search path. For instance, if you
- have a directory named C:\UTIL where you put utility programs, type
- the following command:
-
- COPY A:\*.* C:\UTIL
-
- (This assumes your floppy is in drive A:. Use B: if appropriate.)
-
- You may also choose to create your own directory. If you do,
- include that directory in the search path.
-
- STARTUP
- =======
- At the C: prompt, type NoteWare and press the <Enter> key.
- You will see the following message:
-
- …ÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕª
- ∫ NoteWare is now resident. ∫
- ∫ Press Alt-spacebar to activate. ∫
- ∫ To unload: type NOTEWARE/U <Enter> ∫
- »ÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕÕº
-
- This message indicates NoteWare has been successfully
- loaded into memory. When you want to activate NoteWare,
- hold down the Alt key and press the spacebar. NoteWare's
- Welcome Screen will greet you. Please read the Welcome
- Screen, then start using NoteWare.
-
- If you don't want NoteWare to occupy conventional memory,
- see the "ADVANCED STARTUP" section below.
-
- HOTKEY SELECTION
- ================
- NoteWare's hotkey combination is Alt-spacebar. If you want
- to change the hotkey combination, type HOTKEY at the DOS prompt.
- A menu of available hotkeys will be displayed. Choose between
- Ctrl-spacebar, left Shift-spacebar, right Shift-spacebar, and
- Alt-spacebar. The new hotkey combination will take effect the
- next time you load NoteWare into memory.
-
- UNLOADING NOTEWARE
- ==================
- To unload NoteWare, type NOTEWARE /U at the DOS prompt. Before
- you unload it, be sure that NoteWare is the last memory resident
- program loaded. This function is provided in case you want to use
- the memory occupied by NoteWare. You do not need to unload it each
- time you turn off your computer.
-
- ADVANCED STARTUP
- ================
- If you don't want NoteWare to occupy any conventional memory,
- you have the option of using the "load high" command. The "load
- high" command installs a memory resident program into your PC's
- Upper Memory Area (between 640K and 1 meg).
-
- The "load high" command is only available on those PC's that
- meet certain hardware requirements and use DOS 5.0 or a memory
- manager such as QEMM. We recommend you refer to your DOS manual
- or other memory manager documentation for instructions on how to
- load TSR's (memory resident programs) high. For example, DOS 5.0's
- "LOADHIGH" command only works if you have a 386 or later computer
- and your CONFIG.SYS contains the following commands:
-
- DEVICE=HIMEM.SYS
- DEVICE=EMM386.EXE
- DOS=HIGH
-
- If your computer is set up this way, you would type "LOADHIGH
- NOTEWARE" at the DOS prompt.
-
- If you use a "load high" command to install NoteWare,
- you should also use a "load high" command to unload it. For
- example, under DOS 5.0 you would type "LOADHIGH NOTEWARE /U".
-
